A brief history of medical diode lasers in the UK
Pioneering medical laser firm Diomed was spun out of the University of Cambridge.
World’s first diode laser launched by Diomed for use in a wide range of medical specialisms, offering high levels of precision with minimal bleeding.
World’s first photodynamic therapy laser launched by Diomed for use in cancer treatment.
Diomed pioneered the minimally invasive EVLA procedure for varicose veins using diode lasers and optical fibres.
Diomed was taken over by US company AngioDynamics; two new diode lasers added to the product range.
Angiodynamics ceased manufacturing in the UK.
Former Diomed / AngioDynamics engineers Steve Hayden and David Flood set up Excel Lasers to supply lasers to the UK medical and veterinary communities and to service Diomed and AngioDynamics lasers worldwide.
Both Steve and David have unrivalled expertise in the field. David joined Diomed in 1993 and was responsible for developing the optical systems in both Diomed’s and AngioDynamics’ laser products. Steve joined Diomed in 2000 specialising in mechanical design and in the development and packaging of sterile disposables.
Excel Lasers sells and supports a wide range of medical and veterinary lasers and accessories, helping you to find the right products for your clinical needs. It is also the only UK distributor of the Onemytis2, a new type of electrosurgical instrument for vets which is transforming soft tissue surgery.
